জিয়াউর রহমান-খালেদা জিয়া ভারতের সঙ্গে বৈরী সম্পর্ক তৈরি কয়েছিলেন বলে দাবি করেছেন আওয়ামী লীগ সাধারণ সম্পাদক এবং সড়ক পরিবহণ ও সেতুমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের। তিনি বলেন, ভারতের সঙ্গে বৈরিতা সৃষ্টি করেছিলেন জেনারেল জিয়া। আর খালেদা জিয়া ভারতে গিয়ে গঙ্গার পানি চুক্তির কথা বলতেই ভুলে গিয়েছিলেন। তারা ভারতের সঙ্গে বৈরী সম্পর্ক তৈরি করে বাংলাদেশের ক্ষতি করেছিলেন। কিন্তু আমরা ক্ষতি করতে চাই না৷ আমরা বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ, ভারসাম্যমূলক ও সম্মানজনক পারস্পরিক কূটনীতিক চাই৷এই সম্পর্ক আমাদের জাতীয় স্বার্থে। আমরা জাতীয় স্বার্থ বিকিয়ে দিয়ে কারও সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক করি না। রাজধানীর ২৩ বঙ্গবন্ধু এভিনিউ দলের কেন্দ্রীয় কার্যালয়ে আওয়ামী লীগ নেতাদের সঙ্গে মহানগর উত্তর-দক্ষিণ, সহযোগী এবং ভ্রাতৃপ্রতিম সংগঠনের সঙ্গে এক যৌথসভায় তিনি বৃহস্পতিবার এসব কথা বলেন। ওবায়দুল কাদের বলেন, মিয়ানমারের কিছু অংশ ছাড়া আমাদের চারপাশে ভারত বিস্তৃত। তাই আমরা সমস্যার সমাধান করব আলোচনা টেবিলে। সংশয় আর অবিশ্বাসের দেওয়াল জিয়া-খালেদা জিয়া সৃষ্টি করেছিলেন। এ দেয়াল প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ও ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি ভেঙে দিয়েছেন। আমরা আর একুশ বছর আগে ফিরে যেতে চাই না৷ শেখ হাসিনা গণতন্ত্রের স্বাদ দিয়েছেন মন্তব্য করে আওয়ামী লীগ সাধারণ সম্পাদক বলেন, এ দেশের মানুষের যা কিছু অর্জন, সব কিছু আওয়ামী লীগের নেতৃত্বে হয়েছে। বঙ্গবন্ধুকন্যা শেখ হাসিনা প্রায় ৪৩ বছর ধরে এই দলে নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছেন। তার নেতৃত্ব এই দলের নেতাকর্মীদের প্রেরণার উৎস। বঙ্গবন্ধুকন্যার আপোষহীন, সুদক্ষ ও বলিষ্ঠ নেতৃত্বে স্বৈরতন্ত্র পেরিয়ে আজ বাংলার জনগণ গণতন্ত্রের স্বাদ পেয়েছে। কালের বিবর্তনের সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে আজ ডিজিটালের পথ পেরিয়ে স্মার্ট বাংলাদেশের স্বাপ্নিক অভিযাত্রায় বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগ। বাংলাদেশ আজ স্বল্প উন্নয়ত দেশ থেকে উন্নয়নশীল দেশে পরিণত হয়েছে।
তিনি বলেন, আওয়ামী লীগ একটি ঐতিহাসিক রাজনৈতিক দল। ঐতিহ্যবাহী এ রাজনৈতিক দলের ৭৫ তম প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী প্লাটিনাম জয়ন্তি উপলক্ষে ১০ দফা কর্মসূচি আমরা হাতে নিয়েছি। ঐতিহাসিক সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে সমাবেশ। এই সমাবেশে বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতা ও সমাজের সচেতন নাগরিকদের আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হবে।
যৌথ সভায় উপস্থিত ছিলেন- আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতিমণ্ডলীর সদস্য এবং পাট ও বস্ত্রমন্ত্রী জাহাঙ্গীর কবির নানক, শাহজাহান খান, ডা. মোস্তফা জালাল মহিউদ্দিন, যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক মাহবুব উল আলম হানিফ, ডা. দীপু মনি, আ ফ ম বাহাউদ্দিন নাছিম, সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক আহমদ হোসেন, বিএম মোজাম্মেল হক, এসএম কামাল হোসেন, সুজিত রায় নন্দী, মুক্তিযোদ্ধা বিষয়ক সম্পাদক মৃণাল কান্তি দাস, প্রচার ও প্রকাশনা সম্পাদক আব্দুস সোবহান গোলাপ, দপ্তর সম্পাদক বিপ্লব বড়ুয়া, বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিষয়ক সম্পাদক আব্দুর সবুর, ত্রাণ ও সমাজকল্যাণ বিষয় সম্পাদক আমিনুল ইসলাম আমিন, শিল্প ও বাণিজ্য বিষয়ক সম্পাদক সিদ্দিকুর রহমান, উপ দপ্তর সম্পাদক সায়েম খান প্রমুখ।
