সিরাজগঞ্জে এক হৃদয়বিদারক সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন তিনজন, আহত হয়েছেন অন্তত ১০ জন। শুক্রবার (৩ এপ্রিল) বেলা ১১টার দিকে যমুনা সেতুর পশ্চিমপাড়ে কামারখন্দ উপজেলার নলকা এলাকায় এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।
পুলিশ ও স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, উত্তরাঞ্চল থেকে ঢাকাগামী ‘বুশরা পরিবহন’-এর একটি যাত্রীবাহী বাস নলকা এলাকায় পৌঁছালে হঠাৎ এর একটি চাকা ফেটে যায়। এতে চালক নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে ফেলেন। নিয়ন্ত্রণহীন বাসটি দ্রুতগতিতে সড়কের বিভাজক ও ওভারব্রিজের মাঝখানে সজোরে ধাক্কা খেয়ে উল্টে গিয়ে আটকে পড়ে।
দুর্ঘটনার তীব্রতায় ঘটনাস্থলেই বাসের চালক ও তার সহকারী নিহত হন। গুরুতর আহত অবস্থায় হাসপাতালে নেওয়ার পথে আরও একজনের মৃত্যু হয়। নিহতদের মধ্যে দুইজনের পরিচয় নিশ্চিত হওয়া গেছে। তারা হলেন সিরাজগঞ্জের রায়গঞ্জ উপজেলার চান্দাইকোনা এলাকার রাখি বেগম এবং নওগাঁর বদলগাছি উপজেলার রাকিবুল ইসলাম।
যমুনা সেতু পশ্চিম থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) আমিরুল ইসলাম জানান, দুর্ঘটনার পরপরই স্থানীয়রা ও আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী দ্রুত উদ্ধার কার্যক্রম শুরু করে। আহতদের উদ্ধার করে সিরাজগঞ্জের শহীদ এম মনসুর আলী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালসহ বিভিন্ন হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
এদিকে দুর্ঘটনাকবলিত বাসটি উদ্ধারে কাজ চলছে এবং এ ঘটনায় প্রয়োজনীয় আইনগত ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ প্রক্রিয়াধীন রয়েছে।
