মূলত টন হলো একটি ইউনিট, যা আপনার ঘরের আকার এবং অন্যান্য বৈশিষ্ট্যের ওপর ভিত্তি করে এসির শীতলতার ক্ষমতা পরিমাপ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
এসির টন বলতে মূলত কী বুঝায় সে বিষয়ে ইনফোআইটিবিডি জানাচ্ছে-
এক টন এসি মানে হলো ১২ হাজার বিটিইউ/আওয়ার, ১.৫ টন মানে হলো ১৮ হাজার বিটিইউ/আওয়ার, এভাবে বাড়তে থাকে। এক টনের একটি এসি প্রতি ঘণ্টায় ঘর থেকে ১২০০০ বিটিইউ তাপ শোষণ করতে পারে। দুই টন এসি থাকা মানে প্রতি ঘণ্টায় ২৪ হাজার বিটিইউ তাপ বের করে দেওয়া।
আরও সহজে বলতে গেলে, এক টন বরফ এক ঘণ্টায় একটা ঘরের তাপমাত্রা যতটা ঠান্ডা করবে, এক টন এসির কার্যক্ষমতাও একই। তার অর্থ যত বেশি টন মানের এসি; তত বেশি কুলিং ক্ষমতা।
আসলে এই পরিমাণ বরফ কত দ্রুত গলবে তা নির্ভর করে সময়ের সঙ্গে এটি কতো পরিমান তাপ শোষণ করছে সেটির ওপর। এই হিসেবের সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্য রাখার জন্য এসিগুলো আদর্শ সময় নির্ধারণ করা হয় ২৪ ঘণ্টা। আদর্শ অবস্থায় ২৪ ঘণ্টায় এক টন বরফ গলতে প্রতি ঘণ্টায় ১১ হাজার ৯১৭ বিটিইউ তাপের প্রয়োজন হয়। অর্থাৎ এক টন বরফ ২৪ ঘণ্টায় এই পরিমাণ তাপ শোষণ করে তরলে পরিণত হয়ে থাকে।
আপনার ঘর যদি ১০০-১২০ স্কয়ার ফিটের হয়, সেক্ষেত্রে এক টন এসি যথেষ্ট। ১২০-১৫০ স্কয়ার ফিটের ঘরের জন্য প্রয়োজন ১.৫ টন এসি। আর ১৫০-২৫০ স্কয়ার ফিট বা তার বেশি আয়তনের ঘরের জন্য প্রয়োজন দুই টন ক্ষমতার এসি। আবার ঘর যদি ২৫১-৪০০ স্কয়ার ফিট বা তার থেকে বেশি আয়তনের হয় তাহলে ২.৫ টন বা তার থেকে বেশি টন এসি কিনতে পারেন।
এসি গুলো অনেকটা বরফের ব্লকের মতোই কাজ করে। এখানে মজার ব্যাপার হলো এসি শীতল বাতাস তৈরি করে না বরং ঘরের ভেতর থাকা তাপ বের করে দেয়। এসির ক্ষমতা বলতে বোঝায়, এটি কী পরিমাণ তাপ ঘর থেকে অপসারণ করতে পারে।
