সিরাজগঞ্জের সলঙ্গায় নবজাতক চুরির অভিযোগে আলপনা খাতুন (২৭) নামের এক নারীকে ১৪ বছরের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ড দিয়েছেন আদালত। পাশাপাশি তাকে ৫০ হাজার টাকা অর্থদণ্ড এবং অনাদায়ে আরও দুই মাসের বিনাশ্রম কারাদণ্ড ভোগের নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে।
সোমবার (২০ অক্টোবর) দুপুরে সিরাজগঞ্জ নারী ও শিশু নির্যাতন দমন ট্রাইব্যুনাল-২ এর বিচারক বেগম সালমা খাতুন এ রায় ঘোষণা করেন। মামলায় অপর চার আসামির বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ প্রমাণিত না হওয়ায় তাদের বেকসুর খালাস দেওয়া হয়েছে।
দণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত আলপনা খাতুন সিরাজগঞ্জের কামারখন্দ উপজেলার চরদোগাছি গ্রামের সাদ্দাম হোসেনের স্ত্রী।
আদালতের পাবলিক প্রসিকিউটর (পি.পি) মাসুদুর রহমান মাসুদ বলেন, “শিশু চুরির অভিযোগে একমাত্র আলপনা খাতুনের অপরাধ প্রমাণিত হওয়ায় আদালত তাকে ১৪ বছরের কারাদণ্ড দিয়েছে। অন্য আসামিরা খালাস পেয়েছেন।”
মামলার নথি সূত্রে জানা যায়, ২০২১ সালের ২৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি তাড়াশ উপজেলার নওগাঁ গ্রামের মাজেদ আলীর স্ত্রী সবিতা খাতুন প্রসববেদনা নিয়ে সিরাজগঞ্জ রোড গোলচত্বর এলাকার সাখাওয়াত মেমোরিয়াল হাসপাতালে ভর্তি হন। পরদিন (২৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি) সকালে সিজারিয়ানের মাধ্যমে তিনি এক পুত্র সন্তান জন্ম দেন। কিন্তু বিকেলেই হাসপাতাল থেকে নবজাতকটি চুরি হয়ে যায়।
খবর পেয়ে সলঙ্গা থানা পুলিশ দ্রুত অভিযান চালিয়ে রাতেই কামারখন্দ উপজেলার আলোকদিয়া গ্রামের সোলাইমান হোসেনের বাড়ি থেকে নবজাতকটিকে উদ্ধার করে। এসময় আলপনা খাতুনসহ ছায়রন বেওয়া, মিনা খাতুন, মায়া খাতুন ও রবিউল ইসলামকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
এ ঘটনায় নবজাতকের পিতা মাজেদ আলী বাদী হয়ে সলঙ্গা থানায় মামলা দায়ের করেন। দীর্ঘ শুনানি শেষে সোমবার আদালত আলপনা খাতুনকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করে এ রায় প্রদান করেন।
