সিরাজগঞ্জে যমুনা সেতুর পশ্চিমপাড় সংযোগ মহাসড়কের ঝাঐল ওভারব্রিজ এলাকায় প্রাইভেটকার থামিয়ে সংঘটিত ডাকাতির ঘটনায় সাত সদস্যের একটি সংঘবদ্ধ ডাকাত চক্রকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে জেলা গোয়েন্দা (ডিবি) পুলিশ ও র্যাব। এ সময় তাদের কাছ থেকে লুণ্ঠিত অর্থ ও ডাকাতির কাজে ব্যবহৃত অস্ত্র উদ্ধার করা হয়।
বৃহস্পতিবার (৯ অক্টোবর) বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন সিরাজগঞ্জ জেলা গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের ওসি একরামুল হোসেন।
গ্রেপ্তারকৃতরা হলেন কামারখন্দ উপজেলার পাঁচবাড়িয়া গ্রামের আশরাফুল ইসলাম (২৩), রাশেদুল ইসলাম (২৩), খামার পাইকশা গ্রামের আইয়ুব আলী (২৪), আজাদুল মেম্বার (৩৭), মোহাম্মদ আলী (২৩), সদর উপজেলার পূর্বমোহনপুর গ্রামের শাহা আলী (২৯) ও মোহনপুর গ্রামের বাবু (৩৪)।
ওসি একরামুল হোসেন জানান, গত ৩ অক্টোবর গভীর রাতে যমুনা সেতুর পশ্চিম সংযোগ মহাসড়কের ঝাঐল ওভারব্রিজ এলাকায় প্রাইভেটকার থামিয়ে যাত্রীদের কাছে থাকা টাকা, মোবাইল ও মূল্যবান সামগ্রী ছিনিয়ে নেয় একদল ডাকাত। ঘটনাটির একটি ভিডিও সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে ভাইরাল হলে ব্যাপক চাঞ্চল্যের সৃষ্টি হয়।
পরে ৫ অক্টোবর সংশ্লিষ্ট থানায় মামলা দায়ের করা হয়। মামলার পর পুলিশ সুপার মো. ফারুক হোসেনের নির্দেশনায় যমুনা সেতু পশ্চিম থানার ওসি আসাদুজ্জামান ও ডিবির এসআই নাজমুল হকের নেতৃত্বে অভিযান চালিয়ে বুধবার রাতে আশরাফুল, রাশেদুল, আইয়ুব ও আজাদুলকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তাদের কাছ থেকে লুণ্ঠিত সাড়ে ২২ হাজার টাকা, তিনটি মোবাইল ফোন ও একটি রামদা উদ্ধার করা হয়।
এর আগে র্যাব সদস্যরা বাবু, শাহা আলী ও মোহাম্মদ আলীকে গ্রেপ্তার করে। বৃহস্পতিবার বিকেলে তিনজনকে আদালতে হাজির করা হলে তারা স্বীকারোক্তিমূলক জবানবন্দি প্রদান করেন। পুলিশ জানায়, এদের বিরুদ্ধে পূর্বেও একাধিক মামলা বিচারাধীন রয়েছে।
এ ঘটনায় অন্যান্য সহযোগীদের গ্রেপ্তারে অভিযান অব্যাহত রয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে ডিবি পুলিশ।
এদিকে, ডাকাতি ঘটনার ভিডিও ভাইরাল হওয়ার পর দ্রুত সময়ের মধ্যে মূল অভিযুক্তদের গ্রেপ্তার করায় আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর তৎপরতার প্রশংসা করেছেন স্থানীয়রা।
