সিরাজগঞ্জের উল্লাপাড়া উপজেলায় বৃহস্পতিবার রাতে পৃথক দুটি সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন দুই মোটরসাইকেল চালক। নিহতদের একজন এনজিওকর্মী ও অপরজন চাউল ব্যবসায়ী বলে জানা গেছে।
প্রথম দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটে রাত ৮টার দিকে, উল্লাপাড়া পৌরসভার মডেল মসজিদের সামনে বগুড়া-পাবনা মহাসড়কে। জামালপুর জেলার দেওয়ানগঞ্জ উপজেলার বাসিন্দা শহিদুল ইসলাম (৫০) মোটরসাইকেলযোগে তাড়াশ উপজেলা থেকে মোহনপুর ইউনিয়নের দিকে যাচ্ছিলেন। পথিমধ্যে সড়কের পাশে রাখা বালু ও খোয়ার স্তূপে ব্যাহত হয়ে তিনি নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে পড়ে যান। এ সময় বিপরীত দিক থেকে আসা একটি দ্রুতগতির ট্যাংক লরি তাকে চাপা দিয়ে পালিয়ে যায়। ঘটনাস্থলেই শহিদুলের মৃত্যু হয়। তিনি একটি বেসরকারি সংস্থার (এনজিও) কর্মী ছিলেন।
দ্বিতীয় দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটে গভীর রাতে, উল্লাপাড়া রেলওয়ে স্টেশন সংলগ্ন ওভারব্রিজ এলাকায়। নিহত চান মিয়া (৪৫) সিরাজগঞ্জের শাহজাদপুর উপজেলার নরিনা মধ্যপাড়া গ্রামের বাসিন্দা এবং একজন চাউল ব্যবসায়ী ছিলেন। তিনি মোটরসাইকেলযোগে শাহজাদপুরে যাচ্ছিলেন। পথে একটি অজ্ঞাত ট্রাক তাকে চাপা দিয়ে দ্রুত স্থান ত্যাগ করে। ঘটনাস্থলেই তার মৃত্যু ঘটে।
দুটি দুর্ঘটনার বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন হাটিকুমরুল হাইওয়ে থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা মোঃ আব্দুর রউফ। তিনি জানান, উভয় ঘটনার তদন্ত চলছে এবং ঘাতক যানবাহন শনাক্তে পুলিশ কাজ করছে।
