সিরাজগঞ্জের উল্লাপাড়া উপজেলার সলঙ্গা থানার রামকৃষ্ণপুর ইউনিয়নের কচিয়ারবিলে অবৈধ ও অপরিকল্পিতভাবে পুকুর খননের ফলে হাজার হাজার বিঘা কৃষি জমি জলাবদ্ধ হয়ে পড়েছে। এর ফলে ৫টি মৌজার ১৪টি গ্রামের কৃষকরা মারাত্মক ক্ষতির সম্মুখীন হচ্ছেন। এই পরিস্থিতির প্রতিবাদে এবং খাল খননের দাবিতে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত কৃষকরা গতকাল (৫ ফেব্রুয়ারি) বিকেলে হাটিকুমরুল-বনপাড়া মহাসড়কের দবিরগঞ্জ এলাকায় মহাসড়ক অবরোধ করে বিক্ষোভ মিছিল, মানববন্ধন ও সমাবেশ করেন।
সমাবেশে কৃষকদের পক্ষ থেকে বক্তব্য দেন বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা খোন্দকার তৌহিদুর রহমান, গোলাম মোস্তফা, গোলাম রব্বানী, আব্দুল আজিজ, আবু তাহের ও আব্দুল জলিলসহ আরও অনেকে। বক্তারা হরিনচড়া, কৈমাঝুড়িয়া, জালশুকা, দবিরগঞ্জ ও চৈত্রহাটী মৌজার ১৪টি গ্রামের কৃষি জমির জলাবদ্ধতা দূর করতে দ্রুত কচিয়ার বিলে খাল খননের প্রয়োজনীয়তা তুলে ধরেন। তারা এই দাবি বাস্তবায়নের জন্য উল্লাপাড়া উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তার মাধ্যমে সরকারের কাছে জোর দাবি জানান।
বক্তারা হুঁশিয়ারি উচ্চারণ করে বলেন, যদি দ্রুত সময়ের মধ্যে তাদের যৌক্তিক দাবি পূরণ না করা হয়, তাহলে ভবিষ্যতে আরও কঠোর কর্মসূচি, যার মধ্যে মহাসড়ক অবরোধও অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকবে, ঘোষণা করা হবে।
মহাসড়ক অবরোধের কারণে দীর্ঘ যানজট সৃষ্টি হলে, পরিস্থিতি সামাল দিতে উল্লাপাড়া উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (ইউএনও) বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা খোন্দকার তৌহিদুর রহমানের সঙ্গে মোবাইল ফোনে কথা বলেন। তিনি ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত কৃষকদের দাবি সরেজমিনে পরিদর্শন করে সমাধানের আশ্বাস দিলে কৃষকরা তাদের অবরোধ প্রত্যাহার করেন।
