ঢাকা-উত্তরবঙ্গের সড়ক যোগাযোগ প্রায় চার ঘণ্টা ধরে অচল হয়ে পড়েছে রবীন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীদের অবরোধে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্থায়ী ক্যাম্পাস নির্মাণ প্রকল্পের (ডিপিপি) অনুমোদন না দেওয়ার প্রতিবাদে রোববার (১০ আগস্ট) বেলা ১১টার দিকে সিরাজগঞ্জের হাটিকুমরুল গোলচত্বর এলাকায় ঢাকা–রাজশাহী, ঢাকা–পাবনা ও ঢাকা–রংপুর মহাসড়ক অবরোধ করে তারা।
এর ফলে মহাসড়কের উভয়মুখী শত শত যানবাহন আটকা পড়ে এবং হাজারো যাত্রী চরম দুর্ভোগে পড়েন। যদিও হাটিকুমরুল নির্মাণাধীন দুটি বিকল্প সেতু দিয়ে সীমিত আকারে যান চলাচল করছিল, মূল সড়ক পুরোপুরি বন্ধ ছিল অবরোধ চলাকালে।
শিক্ষার্থীরা অভিযোগ করেন, প্রতিষ্ঠার আট বছর পরও বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের নামে প্রতিষ্ঠিত একটি পাবলিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে ভাড়া করা ভবনে নানামুখী দুর্ভোগের মধ্যে শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম চালাতে হচ্ছে। সাত দফায় ডিপিপি সংশোধন করে প্রকল্প ব্যয় ৯ হাজার ২৩৪ কোটি টাকা থেকে কমিয়ে ৫৯৯ কোটি ৫০ লাখ টাকা করা হলেও একনেক সভার এজেন্ডায় এটি অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়নি।অবরোধে অংশ নেওয়া শিক্ষার্থী হৃদয় সরকার, জাকারিয়া, সমুদ্র, মেরাজ ও হাসান বলেন, “সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে ইতিবাচক কোনো সাড়া তো দূরের কথা, কেউ আমাদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগও করেনি। তাই বাধ্য হয়েই আমরা সড়ক অবরোধ করেছি।”
এর আগে গত বৃহস্পতিবার একই স্থানে মানববন্ধন করে শিক্ষার্থীরা ৪৮ ঘণ্টার আল্টিমেটাম দিয়েছিলেন। সময়সীমা শেষ হলেও দাবি পূরণে উদ্যোগ না নেওয়ায় রোববার সকাল থেকেই অবরোধে নামে তারা।
শিক্ষার্থীদের কর্মসূচিতে সংহতি জানান জামায়াতের কেন্দ্রীয় সহকারী সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল মওলানা রফিকুল ইসলাম খান ও শাহজাদপুরের ‘সচেতন নাগরিক সমাজ’-এর সদস্যরা।
হাটিকুমরুল হাইওয়ে থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) আব্দুর রউফ জানান, শিক্ষার্থীরা গোলচত্বরের ধোপাকান্দি এলাকায় ঢাকামুখী ও উত্তরবঙ্গগামী লেন বন্ধ করে বিক্ষোভ করছেন। তবে দুটি ওভারপাস দিয়ে কিছু যানবাহন চলাচল করছে।
